The Story of Sushmit & Zahabia

Sushmit and Zahabia’s love in Singapore culminated in lifetime togetherness right in the city of Joy, Kolkata. With the flowing Ganges bearing proof of their love, Sushmit and Zahabia decided to tie the knot in the presence of their parents, friends and relatives. Sushmit and Zahabia is the third couple whose Marwari wedding photography was captured in my camera.

The best part of this destination wedding photography in Kolkata is that even if it was a Marwari style wedding, the essence of it was different. Sushmit and Zahabia also signed up for a pre-wedding shoot which we shot at the Princep Ghat. Their love for each other was so spontaneous that it hardly took time for me to click some quick shots.

The Many Layers of a Marwari Wedding- The Mehendi

A Marwari style wedding is a celebration and a pompous affair. The riot of colors was a treat to the eyes and a great subject for my candid wedding photography Kolkata. Sushmit and Zahabia’s candid wedding photography in Kolkata would be turning into a big, fat Marwari wedding, something which I had not captured before.

With the rituals full on, there was hardly any time to spare. Zahabia was all set for the mehendi ceremony. In the midst of dholaks and her friends giggling away, her henna laden hands soon became the subject of my photography. The coy bride in a pink net saree sat patiently as the mehendi designer wrote Sushmit’s name in the palms of her hand.

Sangeet- All On The Dance Floor

The sangeet is something that is not an essentially a part of Bengali weddings, a lot of which I had captured. The Sangeet was an experience in itself with families from both sides challenging themselves. Even Sushmit and Zahabia did a number together- the famous ‘Mehendi Laga Ke Rakhna’ song.

The Marwari Wedding – Culmination of an Eternal Wait

Early morning next day and after the haldi was over, Zahabia was all set to be the bride she had dreamt of. Decked up in the clothes and jewelry that came in from Sushmit’s house, she was all ready to take the stage and welcome Sushmit for the Var mala. After the toranchaar, Sushmit entered the mandap and waited for Zahabia who soon walked down, shy and looking stunning but not forgetting the smile and the love in her eyes. With the var mala over and the pheras done amidst the blessings of elders and well-wishers, Sushmit and Zahabia got lost in themselves.

The warm hug that Sushmit gave Zahabia at the end was perhaps the best snap in the album of candid wedding photography in Kolkata.
